We cannot compare our local servicing with that found in developed countries such as Japan. These Honda Vezels for sale in Jiji, Nairobi, or any other local platform are also likely to carry higher prices than the imported ones. Why is the Honda Vezel So Popular Among Kenyans?

The Honda Vezel has earned its reputation through a combination of efficiency, reliability, and modern features that truly resonate with Kenyan drivers. Here are the reasons behind its popularity.
  • Exceptional Fuel Efficiency: Honda Vezel Hybrid models are very economical in terms of fuel consumption. With this model, you can expect to get upwards of 24 km/L on the highway, and with our rising fuel prices, this is precisely what Kenyan drivers want.
  • A Perfect Blend of Style and Practicality: The Vezel isn’t just another utilitarian vehicle, and that’s what makes it special. Its coupe-like design and sporty look turn more heads than its rivals. Inside, it’s reasonably spacious for its class. The “Magic Seats” in the rear are absolutely brilliant and can be configured in multiple ways to carry anything from groceries to a bicycle.
  • Reliability: As any Kenyan car owner knows, the availability of spare parts and ease of maintenance are key concerns. The Honda Vezel is renowned for its reliability, and as it’s a Japanese-imported car, spare parts are readily available in Kenya.
  • Advanced Features for a Modern Driver: Depending on the model year and trim level, the Vezel is packed with modern technology. From touch-screen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to advanced safety features like the Honda Sensing suite, the car feels premium without that luxury price tag that puts off many buyers.

Key Shortcomings of the Honda Vezel for Sale in Kenya.

As much as I appreciate this vehicle, it’s not without its faults, and being a smart buyer means knowing the potential issues. Here are the key shortcomings I’ve personally encountered or heard about from owners and mechanics across Kenya:
  • Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) on older hybrids. I’ve spoken with several mechanics in Nairobi, Mombasa, and other parts of Kenya, and they’ve mentioned that the early hybrid model can have a problem with the DCT, which can lead to jerky shifts. However, this has been improved on newer models, but it’s definitely something to be mindful of when looking at older models.
  • The Hybrid Battery. Like any hybrid vehicle, the battery will eventually need to be replaced. This is a significant cost that many buyers often overlook, and it’s a long-term expense that you absolutely need to consider in your budget.
  • Ground Clearance. For a country with some challenging roads, the Vezel’s ground clearance can be a genuine concern. You have to be careful when navigating huge potholes or rough, unpaved roads to avoid scraping the undercarriage. This is something many owners have learnt the hard way.
  • Spare Parts for Specific Components. While general service parts are easy to find, some specific components for the hybrid system or more complex electronics can be harder to source locally, and may require importing, which means more time and money.

Honda Vezel for sale in Kenya

The Honda Vezel offers a lot of space inside, and you might even mistake it for a minivan, despite being a subcompact car. This model is one of the most fuel-efficient cars on our roads, giving you as high as 24 km per litre of fuel. You don’t often find this in many SUVs. It even features an Eco Mode on the speedometer to help you save more fuel, making the vehicle more environmentally friendly. The 2019 facelifted model is sleeker and sportier, intimidating other vehicles on the road when driven, especially in sport mode.

The model faces competition, though mainly from Subaru XV and Nissan Qashqai in the sub-compact SUV category.

XV offers you a higher engine capacity and slightly more stylish interior, but it is a bit expensive to buy when compared to the Vezel.

XV boot space may also disappoint you. It has about 310-345 litres of room for its various brands. This is way below its competitors of over 450 litres.

Qashqai offers almost similar features to the Honda HRV, and their pricing is identical. The differences come mainly in boot space and efficiency.

While Qashqai comes with 430-litre boot space, HRV has 453-litre, holding additional luggage.

Honda HR-V 2021 Model- Has A New Sporty Look

Honda Vezel for Sale in Mombasa- Maximum Power

The standard model of this car is equipped with a 1.5L petrol engine giving out 129hp (horsepower) and 114 lb-ft (pounds-feet) of torque-energy of the engine.

You can buy the hybrid model for a more robust model that will give you 160hp and about 140 lb-ft of torque.

You can turn on the sport mode to change it to a race car. DCT will send the power to the front wheel immediately, and it turns into a powerful vehicle.

However, the sport mode will not use fuel efficiently. Otherwise, you will need the eco mode if you require saving on fuel.

Honda Vezel for Sale in Nairobi, Kenya- AWD/FF

You will choose the one you prefer here. Both All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Front-Wheel Drive (FF) are available.

You may decide to go for an AWD model if your driving conditions are expected to be 0challenging, mainly off-road.

AWD- means you will have an option of engaging either the front wheels alone, the rear wheels alone, or all four wheels simultaneously.

Note that when using the four wheels altogether, the fuel consumption is higher than when you decide to use either the front or back wheels alone.

You can also go for the FF model if you need your car to be fuel-efficient, and probably you expect it to drive in slippery conditions.

Honda Vezel for Sale in Kenya- Fuel Consumption

I believe fuel consumption is one of the essential factors you will consider when going for any car.

Honda has tried to keep fuel consumption low with this model. You can even change the rate of consumption by using the eco mode feature.

Whether it is the standard model or the hybrid one, they will save something for you in fuel budget when you compare them with their rivals.

The standard model, which comes with a 1.5L direct-inject petrol engine, will consume 1 liter for around 15 to 20 km on different road conditions.

This is impressive considering a model like the Toyota Probox will consume 1 liter for about 17 to 19 km.

The hybrid version becomes even better with a 1.5L petrol-electric powered engine with a 7-speed DCT, which will take you about 24km with a litre of fuel.

Honda Vezel Review in Kenya- Engine Capacity

The entry model of Honda HRV for sale in Kenya comes with a 1.5-liter or 1496cc i-VTEC petrol engine.

The Hybrid version is powered by a 1.5-liter 7-speed i-DCD hybrid petrol engine. The diesel variant is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo engine.

Some other models come with a 1.5L petrol turbo engine and a 1.8L petrol engine. You have several choices in terms of the powertrain with this car.

Liter and cc (cubic centimeters) indicate the amount of mixture of fuel and air that the engine can displace.

Honda Vezel Interior Review

Honda Vezel for sale in Nairobi, Mombasa, and other major towns in Kenya does not disappoint when it comes to its interior.

Comfort and Legroom

The first thing you notice when you step inside this car is its spacious interior which you may not appreciate from the exterior view.

The front row space is excellent for both your head and legs. But in case you are tall, the driver seat comes with an adjuster to fit your comfort.

At the back, the headroom is also sufficient, and even tall passengers will sit comfortably. The flat floor will make your legs move freely and with ease.

Seats and Child Seat

There are two seats in the front row and three in the rear row. They are large and wide enough to accommodate five adults.

The magic seats- which can fold upward or downward- are made of leather to maximize your comfort and avoid the annoying dirt.

These seats have latches to hold your child seat when driving your family in this vehicle. However, the passengers’ seats lack an armrest.

Boot Space

This model comes with 453 liters of boot space, decent space for this type of vehicle.

The best thing about it is that you will even be able to increase the size of your boot to hold the cargo you wish.

The rear seatbacks can split 60/40 to make the rear seat space almost flat, or you can fold them upwards to hold tall items at the back.

In case of long items, you just require folding the rear left seat and front left seat, and you are ready to go with your cargo.

Extra Internal Features

Other features are an electronic parking brake, a touch screen control audio system, a USB port, and a touchscreen-controlled air conditioning system.

This car also comes loaded with ISRS airbags, curtain airbags, and a vehicle stability assist system for your safety when driving.

Honda Vezel Interior- It Comes With Simple But Attractive Interior

Honda Vezel Price in Kenya – Exterior Review

This vehicle is in a class of its own when it comes to looks. With its sleek styling and sporty look, it is a beauty to look at.

The vehicle is built to handle even rough roads with 17-inch alloys and 215 mm tires, coupled with higher ground clearance.

You will be welcomed by jewel-eye LED headlights incorporated into a honeycomb-pattern grille, which adds attitude and aggression to the front.

It comes with a gloss-black bumper at the rear to enhance the sporty look. You will also find LED brake lights to make you visible on the road at the back.

Vezel Close Rivals

When you’re considering this crossover, it’s wise to also look at its direct competitors in the Kenyan market. These are cars that offer a similar blend of features, size, and price point that might better suit your specific needs.

  • Toyota C-HR: A strong competitor known for its eccentric styling and that reliable Toyota engineering we all know and trust.
  • Nissan Juke: A compact and unique-looking SUV that, like the Vezel, prioritises style and city driving over rugged capability.
  • Mazda CX-3: Praised for its premium interior and sporty handling, it’s a great choice for those who value driving dynamics and that premium feel.
  • Subaru XV: Known for its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, making it a more capable option for those weekend adventures to places like Naivasha or the coast.

Honda Vezel Review- What Past Buyers Are Saying

These are views of some of the people who have bought this vehicle through Bestcarsforsaleinkenya.co.ke

Joy K

“I first thought this car was too small for my family, but when I had a test drive at Bestcarsforsaleinkenya.co.ke yard in Ruiru. I immediately ordered one. It is spacious inside.”

Hannah W

I did a lot of research before buying my 2023 Vezel, which I personally imported for 5.5 million less than the sticker price you see at many dealerships in Kenya. The main factors I considered for my decision are:

Excellent fuel efficiency on the road, especially considering my daily commute from Thika to Nairobi. I average around 20-22 km/l, which is really economical.

Reliable engine with tried and tested technology, the Honda CVT really sealed the deal for me, considering the bad experience I’ve had with the previous generation.

Kazungu

“You can’t compare this vehicle with any other SUV. It’s very efficient on fuel, exceptionally reliable, and reasonably priced.”

George Otieno

“I ordered this vehicle through Bestcarsforsaleinkenya.co.ke sometime back, and I still love what I got. I feel like a king on the road, although this is a small vehicle.”

KK

“What I love most about this car is its sporty and stylish look. It also feels comfortable when I drive on the road.”

Tom2012

“I can now rush to my rural home with my family at ease. This vehicle is very stable and comfortable on the road. Thanks, Bestcarsforsaleinkenya.com for importing it for me.”

Stephanie K.

“Being a 2018 Vezel owner, I am very happy to have bought it. It has an amazing feel to drive, and the kick in its sports mode is bang on. Looks are Amazing. It has a comfortable drive. People have complained about the transmission issues, but those were in the 2013-14 models. The model has a decent boot space, allowing 3 large luggage to be placed. However, you can always fold down the rear seats to add more space. The suspension is a bit hard, but being a crossover, most of them have hard suspensions. There are no AC vents for the rear passengers; however, the front ones are enough, but in the hot and humid conditions, it is not good enough for the rear passengers, especially in direct sunlight. It is great for 4 people, but in Kenya, you’ll always find more than 4 occupants. About the rear bench seat, it’s not as comfy as the front seats, but it does get the job done. Apart from these, I haven’t had any issues with mine till now.”

Joseph Methu,

My wife and I were in the market shopping for a mid-budget car last year. I had the Honda Vezel in mind, but I was very disappointed when I actually test drove it. Everything in the car feels kind of cheap, a bit floppy and underpowered. We had a foreign used, 2019 model in mind, and when you factor in the price of KSH 3M, we decided to pass. Gladys, however, did pitch importing a Mazda CX-5, and we loved it a lot. We purchased the 2200 CC diesel engine and for a the price of 3.2M, it was a great deal. The Mazda CX-5 feels significantly better built, definitely better equipped, and fairly priced.

Common Questions We Get About the Vezel For Sale in Kenya

Some of the frequently asked questions about this vehicle are listed here.

Is the Honda Vezel a Good Car?

This car may not be termed a spectacular car, especially its interior, but it represents a decent and reasonable car.
